ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2018 (PP-18)
PP-18 took place in Dubai in October 2018. It endorsed harnessing new technologies and broke ITU records for representation of women.
During the conference, Member States elected anew ITU leadership team, Council Members and Radio Regulations Board (RRB). They approved the four-year Strategic and Financial Plan and provided guidance to the Union on using new technologies as a source for good while safeguarding end users against their risks.
ITU Member States approved several new and many revised resolutions to strengthen ITU’s work related to the use of ICTs and to facilitate the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through, for example:
- Connect 2030 Agenda
- Use of information and communication technologies to bridge the financial inclusion gap.
- ITU's role in fostering telecommunication/information and communication technology-centric innovation to support the digital economy and society.
- ITU’s activities relating to services that run “over-the-top” (OTTs) of existing telecommunications infrastructure.
- Encouraging the participation of small and medium enterprises in the work of the Union.
